Q. Who are you?
A. I'm Sue Campbell. A 26-year-old, recently married, mid-westerner in self-imposed exile who once went nuts, but now I am well. It is wellness that interests me. Anyone can be crazy, so few are sane. Someday, I would like to be eulogized as a strong woman who nurtured herself and her loved ones, and productively explored her creative side while enjoying healthy bowel movements on a daily basis.
Q. Why did you move to Portland, Oregon from St. Cloud, Minnesota?
A. My husband Ben and I decided to move away from Minnesota back in 1999. We wanted out of our mid-sized, dead-end, strip-mall town. We wanted to get away from the unreasonable expectations and demands of our parents. We did not want to keep running into people we went to high school with everytime we went to the grocery store or the movies, or dig our cars out of the snow every day from October til May. We had a few friends who had already made their escape and were living in Portland. We thought, "What the hell? We can always move again if we don't like it." We love it.
Q. Do you have any children?
A. No. Someday we might. But we want a dog first. And a steadier, larger income.
Q. What's that you're knitting?
A. A child's garter stich jacket and a hat for my husband.
