Good news everyone, I went to the yarn store today and was able to get yarn from the same dyelot to finish my sweater. Whew.
I also got some yarn and needles for a pair of socks made at the same time on two circular needles. Very exciting. The socks will be for Ben's Grandfather, "Papa," for his Christmas table gift. In Ben's family, we all draw names for a gift to give just before Christmas dinner. It must be handmade, and fit on a dinner plate.

I picked the last of the plums off the tree tonight. The first of the grapes are sweet, and I picked some of those two. The Asian pears are big and golden, but still very woody.
Someone in the office has been leaving bins full of cherry tomatoes in the break room. They look like heaps of red and orange jewels, and taste wonderfully sweet. I used them to make some Pico de Gallo with cucumber, and have been adding them to sauces. I brought home another batch today, along with some larger beefsteaks and I'm going to make cream of tomato soup this weekend.
Autumn is my favorite season, but feels so somber this year as the anniversary of September 11th approaches. I want to ignore it. I don't want to relive that pain, but I know there's no avoiding it and no use in trying to do so.

Impatience, or what my mother refers to as "antsiness" (literally, the state of having ants in your pants) is a dangerous state of mind.

Any day now I should be getting a check for $480. It represents the "final disbursement" of my 401k from my last job. I plan to use it to pay off some debts, buy myself a little treat, and save a little too. I am extremely antsy for this check to arrive.

I realized that I did not buy enough yarn to complete my blue angora/wool sweater project. For some reason I had it in my head that I would only need about 8 ounces. So I bought 6 skeins at 1.75 ounces each, thinking I'd get an extra just to be safe. Then I was reading through my knitting books today, deciding what type of sleeve I wanted, and I realized that I need about 18-22 ounces. I must have been thinking "8" because I used 8 skeins for my last sweater project. This is very distressing. Now I have to hustle back to the Yarn Garden and see if they have any skeins left in the same dyelot. If they don't, I'm going to have to put in a two-color pattern.
On a happier note, I picked up a really good knitting magazine at the grocery store, of all places. Sheridan Fruit Company was closed for Labor Day (good for them), so we went to New Seasons. They have knitting magazines in their check out lines! This seems a strange impulse item for the average person, but it worked on me.

We finally bought a shop vac. Our lives are forever changed. All the dust bunnies have been sucked out from underneath the bed. The cookie crumbs and dead skin cells are gone from the crevaces of the sofa. And (bonus!) I found lots of stuff stuck between the cushions: A number 7 straight aluminum knitting needle, fancy french fingernail clippers (presumed lost forever well over a year ago), several hair binders, half a dozen yarn labels I need for my records, a sticker featuring a rainbow trout and a Pilot pen.
