Ben and I just got back from the coast. It was stormy. We walked around Ecola State Park a bit and watch the big waves break. It was high tide. We stood on the stairs leading to the beach rather than the beach itself to keep from getting wet. Then we ran down to the sand when the waves rolled out and stacked flat rocks on top of each other until the waves rolled in again and we'd run up the steps and watch the waves knock down the rocks and drag them away. I don't think Minnesota kids ever get over the thrill of seeing the ocean.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, as everyone knows. So keep a close eye.
Would I want the democrats in total control? I'd probably be excited for a day, or maybe even a week. But I honestly believe that government works better with two sides, with nearly equal power, keeping each other in check. We now have a conservative supreme court, who has shown it's willingness to flout constitutional law in favor of political preference, an impressionable president surrounded by heartless hawks, and republicans in control the house and senate. And you thought the Contract with America was a disaster.
Well shit. I don't know how this happened, but it looks like the Republicans will soon be in charge of the whole shooting match (and shooting match it will be). This is a pisser folks. I predict that Republicans will become so overzealous that they will make themselves appear montrous in the eyes of the American public. And in a few more years, the voters will bring things back into balance. It will be a tough couple of years, vigilance can be exhausting.
Susie, this is mom. It's a beautiful Sunday, it's catchup day on all the worldliness that's going on. And Rachel is burping, [sounds of sister yelling in background] and I'm not telling you anything about Rachel, except that she's burping. Bub-bye.
