I got a visit from Bernice today. She's my own personal, Jehovah's Witness. We are the only house on the block that she visits. I'm sure all my neighbors have slammed their doors in her face. We would usually do the same, but Bernice is so sweet and gentle, we couldn't bring ourselves to shoo her away. She's a tiny and black with straightened black hair going gray and a tiny gray moustache and a pacemaker. She wears burgundy lipstick. She's never pushy, she just chats with me about my yard, and gives me two issues of The Watchtower, which almost always go directly to the recycling bin, which I think she knows. She once thanked me for being kind to her, she said she gets many bad reactions from people, but this is what her god asks of her and she does it, even though I think it's a bit scary and uncomfortable for her.
Recently she had some back problems, she didn't stop by for about 3 months this winter, and I was so happy to see her again, though I must admit, I'd forgotten about her while she was gone. Her back is much better now, though her neck was bothering her today and she was distressed she couldn't get ahold of her doctor regarding some test results.
I forgot to tell her we're going to be moving in a few months. I hope I get the chance to say goodbye so she doesn't feel abandoned.
